Medical Model
The Medical Model is a societal construct, an outdated relic of Industrialization that states ‘we are disabled by our bodies’. In the Medical Model, disabled people are portrayed as playing a passive role in society and are dependent on health professionals for cures or maintenance. The Medical Model presumes disabled people are unable to contribute and do not participate in “regular” activities because of disability.
